  **ZERO STAR rating isn't an option, so in order to post my review I was FORCED to rate 1 star, but it's not even deserving of the one star** I took my 22yr old daughter, who I have legal guardianship of to see Dr. Osarina Contin Mendoza, Ob/Gyn at Hackensack University Hospital as per a referral from her primary care physician. My daughter has Autism, is non verbal and is cognitively delayed, ALL of which I stated when scheduling her new patient appointment. The person who scheduled it okayed me dismissively and I stressed that I wanted the Dr. to be aware that she was a patient with special needs and may not be a typical patient. However, having taken that precaution, the experience at the visit was very disappointing for SO many reasons. To list a few, the unprofessional, rude, unfriendly, overwhelmed attitude of the receptionist, the fact we sat in the waiting room over 30mins, even though there were only 2 other patients sitting in the waiting room, the lame excuse delivered by the rude receptionist when I asked how much longer it would take for my daughter to be seen, and the following chatter that took place IN FRONT of me in Spanish while the receptionist discussed my question with the other 2 girls sitting at desks in her area (who I dont believe have a say in whether there is an exam room available or not), the intimidated demeanor of the nurse who showed us to the exam room, and reluctance to TOUCH my daughter to even try to take her vitals, the look my daughter received from Dr. Contin herself, from head to toe as my daughter walked from the waiting room to the exam room, I am assuming because of my daughter's classic Autistic demeanor (of which Dr. Contin should have been made aware of, but if not should at least have the professionalism to NOT show her ignorance). In discussing my daughters reasons for seeing a gynocologist, I explained that she has been suffering seizures near and/or during her menstrual cycles and the birth control pills she is on are fairly new to her. Dr. Contin went on to say she was not familiar with the 2 names of birth control pills my daughter had been and is currently on and would need to research, and asked for me for the spellings (I have never experienced a dr who doesnt know the names of generic medication in their field of practice). She said she would research and get back to me by the next day. Today is Monday, (4 days after appointment). I never heard back from Dr. Contin or her office. I called my pharmacy to see if anything had been called in from Dr.'s office and was told no on Friday and Saturday and no again today., Monday. Still no call from Dr. Contin's office to me either. This is as much a complaint about Dr. Contin and her staff as much as it is plea for awareness to the medical community. There are people with Special Needs, with Autism and many other developmental disabilities who need routine treatment as well as specialist treatment, that is not only exclusive to their disability. It wont be long before you wont be able to sweep us under the rug, and I say "US" because although I am not a person with special needs, I speak for one, I live my life WITH one, and it is my responsibility to call attention to this lack of empathy in the medical community towards BOTH the individual with Special Needs AND their care givers. Cultural differences, lack of experience in your field of work, english as a second language, and language barriers are NO EXCUSE for lack of professionalism and empathy, especially in the medical field. Those human qualities transcend all that. There is simply no excuse. I am fluent in Spanish and obviously english, I understood everything the office staff was saying, and I am sure they knew it too, the language doesn't matter. Rude is rude. I have been dealing with Autism and the medical community for all of my daughter's 22yrs. The medical community in general is making progress and that is why I can't bite my tongue when we have an experience like this in a medical facility.

  Please save yourself time and pick another practice. I wish I can select zero stars. It would be more apropriate. My wife selected Hackensack location for convinience and rating of Hackensack medical center. Wrong decision. The practice is very disorganized and wait times are atrocious. In addition to it they never on top of faxing/ sending prescriptions for tests, and often lose them, which caused my wife massive amount of frustration and stress, not speaking about waste of time, that is big No No during pregnacy. Office staff is incompetent and provide inconsistent instructions. Doctors are decent; however, they have way too many patients to handle and provide enough attention. In addition there is large staff turnover, which itself does not provide good impression. Once again, save yourself time and nerves and select another practice.

  Appointments are never available, the doctor I had seemed to not know what she was doing, and the people who answer the phones are very rude. The wait time in the waiting room is over an hour on the rare occasion you can get an appointment. Very disappointed in the quality of service.
